Cumberland Business Chamber has met with a business delegation from the city of Zhenjiang in China. This is a sister city of Fairfield City Council and councillor Ken Yeung organised for the group to visit our region. Zhenjiang is a modern city of 4,000,000 people in the Jiangsu province which is very close to Nanjing, the capital city of China prior to 1949.
The President, Vice President and Treasurer of CBC met with the Deputy Mayor of the Zhenjiang Municipal Government, Director General of the Zhenjiang Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, Deputy Director of the Zhenjiang Commercial Bureau, and Deputy Director of the Zhenjiang Small&Medium Enterprises Authority. The delegation is interested on forming ties with local businesses which are capable of exporting certain products to China.
The Chamber President spoke to the delegation and told them about the uniqueness of our business region…having the largest industrial estate in the Southern Hemisphere, one thousand companies employing over 20,000 people, a cross section of innovative businesses which are the “engine room of New South Wales”. The delegation was excited by the potential of our region and invited the Chamber to communicate with them back in China. The Chamber will now pursue opportunities specific to the capabilities of local industry.
