Sad news for local manufacturing with the announcement by the Tieman family that it is closing down its mobile service and maintenance business as well as the tail lift and whiting door division after almost 40 years of operation. Tieman has been operating out of Davis Road at Wetherill Park. The family said it had to make the very difficult decision in order to keep the tanker manufacturing arm of the company in business in Victoria and to save 100 jobs down there. It said the lack of business confidence in the current market and rise in operating costs were to blame. A voluntary administrator has been appointed. Company founder Neil Tieman won an Order of Australia medal in 2012 for his contribution to domestic manufacturing.
